Side project #1 Portraits
On occasion I like to keep my skills sharp by painting the human figure. Whether it's portraiture, or drawing from the nude model at Hip-Bone Studio on E. Burnside street. Undoubtedly, the human figure is one of the most challenging subjects to capture on the two-dimensional page. There is infinite nuance in lighting, color, mood, etc.
At the end of the day, I believe that it's the camera's job is to create an exact replica. It's the artist's job to interpret and extrapolate those elements of interest that capture his attention, and therefore the eye. I kept things loose with this image and really had fun. I took some creative license to really capture Charlie at his best. Toddlers have the attention span of a goldfish, which is why this image was created based upon a few photographs for reference.
Ethan's portrait is more straight forward, but a great likeness.
